If a student's submission or Similarity Report is visible within your Turnitin assignment inbox but does not appear in the Canvas SpeedGrader, the cause depends on which Turnitin integration your institution uses.
Determine your integration version below to resolve the issue:
Scenario 1: You are using the Canvas LTI 1.3 Integration
If your assignment was created using the LTI 1.3 External Tool, submissions and Similarity Reports are not designed to sync or display within the Canvas SpeedGrader.
Expected Behavior: This is by design for this specific tool version. Instructors may see a "No Preview Available" message in SpeedGrader.
Resolution: To view, grade, or access submissions and their corresponding Similarity Reports, you must navigate directly to the Turnitin Assignment Inbox within your Canvas course.
Scenario 2: You are using the Canvas LTI 1.1 Integration
If your assignment was created using the legacy LTI 1.1 integration and a paper is missing from SpeedGrader, it usually indicates that the student bypassed Canvas and uploaded their file directly to the Turnitin website (turnitin.com or turnitinuk.com).
The Cause: Submissions made directly to the Turnitin website cannot pass data or sync with the Canvas SpeedGrader.
Resolution: The student must log into Canvas, open your assignment link, and resubmit the file directly through the Canvas interface. Once submitted through the LMS, the paper and score will populate in SpeedGrader.
ℹ️ Still not showing? If your student confirms they submitted directly through the Canvas LTI 1.1 inbox and the paper is still missing from SpeedGrader, it may indicate a temporary sync disruption. Please contact Turnitin Technical Support to have the LTI callback manually resent.
